Simple is sometimes what people responds to, good example , last weeks top image , hill top view taken in Caerphilly.


Lens used was  a manual 28mm Tokina Prime, works well with the D2X that has a non  cpu setting to aid use of manual setting .

A visitor to my garden sits amongst foilage, eyeing berries .


Lens used was an aged Nikon 50mm pancake , came with a Nikon EM back in the day . A quality piece of glass that produces excellant photographs

I found if I want to super charge my social media engagement, I just need to put up a solid Black and White Image , last weeks top image smashed all comers and also took Octobers Image of the Month . Taken in Penallta Parc, view over Rhymney Valley  capturing a lone tree.

Taken in Penallta Parc the path running right to left draws you into the frame at the middle top third you can make out the head of Sultan the pit pony, earthwork artwork . As with last weeks top image this one forms part of 50mm lens challenge I set myself

Two months back I set myself a single lens challange for a full 4 weeks, this is one of the images, using a 50mm lens the view is compressed to a persons eye view of a scene . The light gap in the left centre is heart shaped delivering light contrast against the dark gray tones

A product of a recent visit to Fuerteventura , I was attracted by the tyre tracks leading up the beach couple with the vast empty scene.

The power of black and white saw this photo out pace its sister colour image by 30% more responce on social media

Image of the Week W/C 25th September 2023


A 35mm Image takes prime spot last week . Taken with an aged Zenit 12XP fitted with a 50mm Helios lens. This hill top view is stacked with detail, a dry brick wall running left to right down the hill , an abandoned form house at the edge of the top right third a rasied hilltop occupying the left and capped off with light and dark cloud. The  soft delivery of 35mm produces a nostalgic feel to this landscape

Due to holidays a most liked image spanning the last two weeks. Taken with an unorthodox lens for landscape , that afforded a tighter image of walls and tower at Caerphilly Castle

Interesting top image last week, won't appeal to most people, a  full frame of a green palm leaf . I was attracted by the colour and pattern with leading lines running from bottom to top a simple representation of key photographic eliments .

A monochrome image taken centre stage last week. Taken on a recent holiday to Cape Verde, a substantial look out tower stands as a sentinal on a wide expance of beach.

Bit of a minimalist image taken at Newport Wetlands, strong horizon line created by the mass reed bed , with East Usk Lighthouse just making an apperance in the centre . All capped off by blue sky and clouds

Image of the Week W/C 24th July 2023


As we exit July, it is pleasing and surprising that the month has been dominated by 35mm film images, 4 weeks on the bounce has seen this photography format taking the weekly top spot, with last weeks photo making Julys Image of the Month. Never had such a month of consistant performance from film photography taken with a Petri7S film camera .


Last week is a street scene from Cardiff Bay depicting "Ianto's Shrine" a character from the Doctor Who spin off Tourchwood.

Image of the Week W/C 17th July 2023


A black and white image again demonstrates the strong responce for the genre, this one recieved most attention compared to all images this year . Again its from a set I took using 35mm Petri7S rangefinder , film is not dead.


Image depicts raised walkway over the reed beds at Newport Wetlands , with a strong leading line to walkers and the East Usk Lighthouse

A scond week where a 35mm Image has taken top spot again taken with a Petri7S rangefinder camera over 50 years old and still delivering images .


Converted from colour to black and white to produce that go to street result, taken at Mermaid Quay Cardiff

Top image for last week was only posted to social media yesterday and recieved a prompt and massive responce. This 35 mm Image taken with a Petri 7S , subject East Usk Lighthouse, in Newport Wetlands .


Film stock used FujiFilm C200, just love the quality of the results, colour and image sharpness very impressive (See link to Amazon for a 5 Pack)

Top image for last week is a result of a review of my back catalogue. Taken in September 2019 at Abaravon Beach on a gray overcast day. In post I have pushed the HDR adjustment to highlight the colouring on the beach and emphasis the dark sky

The main subject is the Merchant Seamen's memorial on Mermaid Quay Cardiff , the face forms the underside of a ships hull an eye catching piece of rememberance  


I selectively coloured the image to emphasis the red of the poppys against the gray sculpture

Image of the week a result of a much visited Caerphilly castle, always looking for different views of this amazing location, when I was confronted with this scene . The lady surrounded by geese and other birds whilst she scatters seed , making sure each bird gets its fair share.

A change of genre for last weeks top image, a dramatic landscape taken on a mountain overlooking the Rhymney Valley .


A sole wind turbine imposes its present on this windswept location . 


From foreground to middle ground a dirt track adds a strong leading line. All topped off by  gray and white clouds

Image of the Week W/C 15th May 2023


Posted this image on the site last week and shared across all my social media platforms and got a massive responce


Taken in Porthcawl where my lead camera that day was my 35mm Nikon F4S . Shot into the low Winter sun the street created a tunnel of light, with deep shadows either side of two people chatting . The street cobbles add pattern and contrast.


First time I used Kentmore Pan 400, did like the results, creates sharp images with a fine grain . (Check out Link left )

After a number of weeks where Black and White images dominate image of the week, a coloured albeit with muted colours .


A photograph of the main gate at Caerphilly castle. The sky creates a solid background helping to emphasis the horizontal and vertical lines. Barrier rails add an eliment of leading lines with the gate framing the inner parts of the castle

A black and white image again draws a lot of attention, Porthcawl sea wall and lighthouse.   


This is all about the contrast of light and shadow , with a right to left leading line to the lighthouse   .
